Sunner Museum福建圣农博物馆

Sunner Group, China's leading white-feather broiler producer, built this industry museum inside its production campus in Guangze County, Nanping, Fujian — at the edge of the Wuyi Mountains, with the Futun River flowing around the site. Beyond presenting four decades of achievement in agricultural science, the museum serves as a platform for industry exchange and a knowledge hub for modern agriculture.

Under the concept of “recreating the mountain landscape”, three curved roofs rise gently from the ground and tilt upward, echoing the undulating ridgelines of the Wuyi range and forming elevated landscape courtyards. The roofs interlock so that interior spaces remain independent while circulation stays continuous, and visitors can climb onto them for panoramic views of mountains, river and factory.

The façade borrows from the folded steel plates of retaining walls. Concrete folds read as solid retaining walls where the building is low, and combine with glass curtain walls to open transparent interiors at the entrance and public spaces. Gaps between the folds admit light and views, while the diagonal ribs help drainage and conceal ventilation louvres.

Four giant silo-like shear walls support the main exhibition hall; between them a 25-metre atrium creates a column-free space for large installations, softly lit by north-facing skylights. Sloped roofs shed the heavy rain of the humid climate, a thick soil layer insulates, and equipment is hidden in a technical layer of the roof, so the building reads as a green hill. By day it presents modern agriculture; at night its roof terraces open free to the public.
